Bible College hallway reinvented as football pub

Merv Armstrong is proud of the transformation.The General Manager of the Orr Centre (4400 4th Avenue) in Regina stands in what used to be the main hallway for the Canadian Bible College and then the Western Canadian Bible College.

When he took over running the place he was looking for new ways to turn a space that was filled with lockers into destination.

In 2013, the Orr Centre played host to the Spirit of Edmonton during Grey Cup Festivities. In preparation for that event, Armstrong converted the space into Taylor Field Pub.

"It's not about the Riders. It's about Taylor Field. Any team that's everplayed on Taylor Field is who we promote," explained Armstrong.

The floor is covered in AstroTurf, there are pine benches, football shaped tables, and mural sized pictures of the stands at Taylor Field covering the walls.

Armstrong is also very proud of thememorabilia.

"We are interested in looking for jerseys from any high school team that's played there," said Armstrong.

On the wall is a jersey from the 2013 Thunder and signed jerseys from Riders who played at Taylor Field over the years.

George Reed's Foundation office is located in the building and Reed helped secure several pieces of Rider history.

Founding Fathers of Football

What gets Armstrong most excited however, is a photograph from 1929. It's an autographed picture of what Armstrong calls the founding fathers of football in Regina.
The 1929 Western Conference Champion Regina Rugby Football team on it's way to the Grey Cup.

"In the team picture only three of the players have a big R. If your mom, sister or wife didn't sew the R on your uniform you didn't get one," said Armstrong.

The Taylor Field Pub does not keep regular pub hours but rather is available to rent along with bar and food services.
