Boy, 5, dies following hit and run in Big River, Sask.

A five-year-old boy died after what police are calling a hit and run in a northern Saskatchewan community.

A five-year-old boy diedafter what police are callingahitandrunin a northern Saskatchewan community.

It happened Tuesday inBig Riveron Highway 55, which runs through the centre of town.

The RCMP said they got a call at around 9:20 p.m. CST. An ambulance took the boy to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The child had been riding a bicycle when he was struck by the vehicle, the RCMP said.

According to the RCMP, the vehicle did not stop. It was located at a business in Big River,which is about270 kilometres north of Saskatoon.

A man and a woman were taken into custody.

No charges have been laid yet, but the investigation continues and there will be updates as they become available, the RCMP said.

  • A previous version of this story said that a two-year-old boy died after being hit by a vehicle. RCMP say that information was incorrect, and in fact the boy was five years old.
