Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall will attend an upcoming climate change summit in Paris.

The conference, in December, is organized by the United Nations.

Wall said it is important to ensure the province's interests are protected.

"We want to make sure that whatever Canada is committing to doesn't kneecap our economy in the west," Wall said Wednesday.

He added he wants to make sure Saskatchewan has input into any decisions made by the federal government and the new government of Justin Trudeau.

"While we're there I think Mr. Trudeau, I think, the prime minister will be consulting with provinces in advance of sessions and I wouldn't want Saskatchewan's voice not to be a part of that," Wall said, noting that the federal government sets greenhouse gas emissions targets in consultation with the provinces.

Wall said he will also showcase SaskPower's carbon capture project in Paris and noted that the Crown corporation will be part of a technology component of the conference in the week ahead of the main summit.

The Paris meetings are set for Nov. 30 to Dec. 11.
