Canada 150 stamp celebrating Trans-Canada Highway unveiled in Regina

Canada Postunveiled thefifth of 10 commemorative stamps that celebrate the 150thanniversary of Canada's Confederation on Tuesday.

The newstamp, unveiled in Regina by country music starDeanBrody, focuses on the Trans-Canada Highway, which runs through all of Canada'sprovinces.

Brodyis currently on a tour that partlyfollows the Trans-Canada Highway's 8,000-kilometre length. That tour brings him toRegina for a show on Tuesday.

Brodysaid thememories of the Trans-Canada Highway which stick out for him are all of the times he's had a vehicle break down while on tour.

But hesaid Canadian hospitality meant he was never out of commission too long.

"It's not just a highway, it's the stories that the highway allows for Canadians," said Jon Hamilton, general manager of communications for Canada Post.

"When you look at the Trans-Canada Highway, especially when you get outside of the urban centres,it is the main road in and out of town and often the main road that goes through town," he said.

He addedCanada Post thought Regina was the perfect place to unveil the stamp.

"If you're coming into Regina, you're on the Trans-Canada Highway. That's the road you're going to take in, going to take out. It's incredibly important not just for business coming in, but business going out," Hamilton said.

Each stamp so has far has been unveiled in a related location.

The first stamp, which commemorated the Expo 67, was unveiled in Montreal by MosheSafdie, the architect behind Habitat 67.

The next stamp will be unveiled in St. John's on May 25. The last stamp in the series will be revealed June 1.
