Missing snowmobiler found dead on Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation

A missing man last seen riding a snowmobile on Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nationnear Indian Head, Sask., has been found dead.

Daniel James Spencer, 33, was last seen on Saturday around 5:30 p.m. CST but wasn't considered missing until Sunday afternoon.

Lennard Busch, chief of police for the File Hills Police service, said Spencer's body was found about three kilometres east of the Carry the Kettle band officejust before noon Monday.

Police said Spencer is believed to have died from hypothermia, but a coroner's report is still needed to confirm the cause of death.

"It's going to be hard for the family and whole community in the next few days as they deal with this tragedy," he said.

Busch commendedeveryone whopitched in with thesearch efforts.

"They sure came out, not just from this community, but from nearby communities," he said, noting that searchers were out late into the night.

"It was very, bitter, cold," he said. "It was impressive how much people are willing to give when someone's in trouble."

Busch didnot confirm if drugs or alcohol were a factor.
