Meet 5 Future 40 winners of 2016

This bunch of outstanding Saskatchewan people includesa creative cellular problem-solver, a determinedhip hop artist, a chef with a passion for backyard greens, adoctor that's great under pressureand a holisticyogi!

From Monday to Thursday, March 14-17, CBC Saskatchewan is announcing five winners each morning and evening.

With this latest group, we'venow revealed 26winners.

Stephen M. Davies

Age:27

StephenM. Daviesfirst learned ofnationwide issues related tocellular service from his father Richard John Davies, a visiting professor of science and technologyand an applied science technologist.

Communities on fringe or nil areas of cellular coverage had no way of making emergency phone calls or even being in contact with others. These areas are normally under-populated, and as a result, do not make good business sense to improve.

Stephen took this opportunity and found a new way to resolve this very large issue. After several years of research and development, he was successful in producing the cellular solution to extend Providers Cellular Network without installing more base stations.

This solution now allows municipalities and First Nation communities to be in contact with their 911 services. This allows the communities to be able to report emergencies while also providing general cellphone usage.

Eekwol (Lindsay Knight)

Age:38

Eekwol (LindsayKnight) is an award-winning hip-hop artist living in Saskatoon, originally from Muskoday First Nation, Saskatchewan. She has successfully completed her master's degree at the University of Saskatchewan.

For 2016, Eekwolis promoting her 5th full-length album titled, Good Kill.

Eekwol uses her music and words to spread messages of resistance, revolution and keeping the language, land, and culture alive for the next generations.

Through her original sound she displays her activist roots. She is asupporter of both hip-hop and indigenous culture and rights.

Along with music and academic work, Eekwol frequently works with young people across the country as a mentor and helper. She achieves this through performances, workshops, speaking events, conferencesand programs.

Mariana Brito

Age: 29

Chef Mariana Brito hails from Tijuana, Mexico, where she attended Culinary Art School before training in Spain, New York, & South Carolina, with chefs of Michelin starred restaurants.

Fortwoyears, Mariana has been working on her project The Backyard where she combines her global background with a passion for organic food & strong relationships with farmers, centring the flavours of modern Mexican cuisine in the landscape of the Canadian prairie.

Every ingredient is fresh, organic and ethically-sourced from Saskatchewan farmers.Every meal prepared brings together her commitment to excellence, integrity and sheer determination demonstrating how diverse, flavourful and nourishingSaskatchewan grown food can be.

Mariana is exploring a non-profit side to her business to tie together her desire to educate andtrain with her passion for healthy andorganic foods.

Mariana Brito is raising the bar, changing the culinary landscape andexpanding our understanding of what is possible in Saskatchewan!

Rob Woods

Age: 39

Category: Teaching/Healthcare

Rob Woods is a 39-year-old emergency medicine physician in Saskatoon.

He grew up in Eston and Lloydminster before attending the University of Saskatchewan. After completing residency training in Alberta, Rob returned home intent on improving emergency care in the province. His first step was creating a residency program, which graduates new emergency specialists in Saskatchewan each year.

Rob plans an annual provincial emergency medicine conference and is the medical advisor for EMS in the Saskatoon Health Region. He also works as a STARS transport physician, trauma team leader and as both an adult and pediatric emergency physician.

Recently, Rob helped establish a Trauma Team Pilot project, allowing a highly trained leader and team to coordinate care for the most injured patients in Saskatchewan. Rob is a role model and mentor to many students. His legacy is growing in a way that will have a significant impact on the emergency care of the people of Saskatchewan for years to come.

Sarah Garden

Age:38

Sarah Garden is 38 and is the owner of Bodhi Tree Yoga in Regina.

With her husband Colin, she has graduated more than 100 yoga teachers from her teacher training program and has been one of the most influential and trailblazing yoga professionals the province has ever seen.

Sarah runs free classes for people dealing with cancer twice a week, regularly presents at medical conferences, and works with physicians, physiotherapistsand other medical professionals in a way that is seldom seen in yoga communities.

She works tirelessly to integrate yoga into our healthcare system and has been successful in ways that few would have imagined a decade ago.

Bodhi Tree Yoga has been actively involved in fundraising and community efforts in Regina for 12 years, and Sarah has been guiding that process the entire time. Her vision of yoga is one that is therapeutic not just physically, but emotionally and socially as well.
