Exciting semi-finals for U of S teams: basketball win, hockey loss

It has been an action-packed week for university sports, especially for followers of the University of Saskatchewan where Huskies teams are competing in CIS basketball and hockey tournaments.

In men's hockey, a semi-final game on Saturday pitted the U of S Huskies against the St. Francis Xavier X-Men.

At the end of regulation time, the game was tied 1 - 1. The teams went into three overtime periods before the outcome was decided on a goal by the X-Men's Michael Clarke.

The X-Men advance to the finals on Sunday while the Huskies will compete to determine the tournament's third-place winner Sunday afternoon.

The U of S women's basketball team will be competing for the CIS championship after following an 65 - 58 semi-final win over Saint Mary's.

The final game will be a contest between Saskatchewan and Ryerson, which won their semi-final match with an 87 - 72 win over McGill.

Laura Dally, Canada West's player of the year, led Saskatchewan with 24 points. Dalyce Emmerson added 17 points and 18 rebounds.

"I have played in two other semis, and we didn't get to the finals, so this is really nice," Emmerson said. "We still have
some business to take care of, but right now, I am so, so happy."
