Demolition work is underway at the University of Regina's College Avenue Campus, part of a plan to refurbish facilities at that location.

The project, which has been estimated to cost $60 million, is meant to stabilize and update buildings that have been home to the university's continuing education and music programs. The oldest portions, which for years were known as Regina College, were built between 1910 and the 1920s.

Some structures, which officials have said could not be salvaged, are coming down in the process.

The plan includes adding a commercial office block on a plot of park land.

The university buildings, including the performancevenue Darke Hall, are set in Wascana Centre, which is Regina's large green space that includes Wascana Lake, the grounds for the Legislative Building and the main campus for the U of R.

The addition of an officefor Conexus Credit Union a financial institution has raised questions about development in the park.
