Construction on Regina stadium set for official launch

It's a landmark day for football fansthe official groundbreaking for Regina's newfootball stadium will be held Monday morning.

PCL Construction is building the $278-million replacement for Mosaic Stadium in Evraz Place a few hundred metres west of the existing building.

It's expected the future home of the Saskatchewan Roughriders will open in 2017.

It's an open-air, 33,000-seat facility (expandable to 40,000) financed largely through taxpayers, with ticket-buyers and corporate sponsors also contributing.

For several months, crews have been preparing the ground and installinginfrastructure at the site near the corner of Saskatchewan Drive and Elphinstone Street.

Now, construction on the stadium itself will begin.
