Convicted sex offender Skipp Anderson released on bail pending appeal

Former Saskatoon nightclub owner Skipp Anderson is out on bail pending an appeal of his convictionin January for sexual assault.

Anderson was sentenced on March 6 to 30 months in prison. His lawyer Brian Pfefferle said he and Mark Brayford submitted an appeal the day after Anderson's sentencing.

Last Wednesday, the Saskatchewan Court of Appeals agreed to release Anderson at a contested bail hearing. Pfefferle confirmed Wednesday that Anderson had been released the previous day.

During Anderson's original trial, court heard that the assault happened in the accused's home on July 11, 2016. The victim testified he had passed out after drinking heavily at a hot-tub party,was taken to a spare room to sleep it off but awoke in the middle of the night to find Anderson sexually assaulting him.

Anderson testified the man had initiated the sexual activity and consented during it. But the victim testified he was in no position to consent.

Anderson has since sold Pink Lounge and Nightclub.
