COVID-19 in Sask: 5 new cases including 1 in southern region, 12 recoveries

The Saskatchewan government is reporting five additional cases of COVID-19 in the province and 12 more recoveries, as of Friday.

First active case in southern region since April 29

The Saskatchewan government is reporting five additional cases of COVID-19 in the province and 12 more recoveries, as of Friday.

Four of the new cases are in the far north region while one case is in the southern region of the province, which hasn't had an active case since April 29.

The overall number of cases reported in the province has risen to 627, with 99 of them considered active.There have been 521 recoveries overall.

Seven people have died in Saskatchewan after being diagnosed withCOVID-19 since the virus was first detected in March. A person in their 60s was announced dead on Tuesdayin the north region of the province.

There are 85 active cases in the far north region, six in the north region, five in the Saskatoon area, one in the central region, one in the Regina area and one in the southern region.

There have been 248cases in the far north region overall, along with 110cases in the north region, 165 in the Saskatoon area, 76 in the Regina area, 16in the southern region and 12 in the central region.

The province has traced 140cases to travel, up from 139 on Thursday.

There are 349 cases linkedto community contacts or mass gatheringsand 65 other cases still being investigated. There are 73cases with no known exposure.

Five people are in hospital. Three of them are in intensive care.

There were 400 tests processed by the province on Thursday. The province has conducted 42,843 tests in total.

RCMP lay 1 charge

Saskatchewan RCMP received 74 calls related to COVID-19 between May 15 and 21, according to a news release issued Friday.

RCMP say one charge was laid.

There were 25 calls related to gatherings of more than 10 people, which is currently prohibited under the province's public health order.

The RCMP say there were 12 calls related to alleged scofflaws who were not in self-isolation when required to do so. There were 37 other miscellaneous complaints related to COVID-19.
