Bogus $100 bills turning up in Kamsack, Sask., area

Saskatchewan Mounties are warning about counterfeit $100 bills found in the Kamsack area.

The bogus $100s have recently been passed or attempted to be passed at various businesses in the area, the RCMP said.

The bills look like real $100s from a distance but upon close inspection, there are several problems, including:

• poor quality paper instead of plastic bills now in circulation.
• bill is the wrong size.
• tape over where the transparent strip is located.

The counterfeit money that has recently been passed does not have the small numbers in the window matching the denomination of the bill.

Businesses are asked to contact 911 for immediate response when someone tries to pass one of these bills. People are asked to handle the counterfeit bill as little as possible and place in an envelope for safekeeping.

Kamsack is in east-central Saskatchewan, about 56 kilometres northeast of Yorkton.
