Regina police seize nearly 12 kg of fentanyl, meth in $900K drug bust

Two people have been charged with drug traffickingafter Regina police seized nearly 12 kilograms of what'sbelieved to be methamphetamine and fentanyl after a traffic stop and search of a home.

Two people have been charged with drug traffickingafter Regina police seized nearly 12 kilograms of what'sbelieved to be methamphetamine and fentanyl after a traffic stop and search of a home.

On Thursday, the Regina Police Service's drug unitpulled over a vehicle on Highway 1, near Pense, about 25 kilometres west ofthe city.

Officers found about 6.3 kilograms of what'sbelieved to be fentanyl, four kilograms of a substance believed to be methamphetamine and $1,355 in cash inside the vehicle, police said in a Friday news release.

Two milligrams of purefentanylroughly the size of four grains of salt can bea lethal dose, according to police.

A 60-year-old man and 50-year-old woman in the vehicle were arrested without incident, Regina police said.

A home on the 2000 block of Argyle Street, in Regina's Cathedral neighbourhood, was also searched the same day, police said.

According to police, officers found:

  • More than 1,500 cartons of contraband cigarettes.
  • Approximately 1.2 kilograms of a substance believed to be methamphetamine.
  • About 224 grams of a substance police believe is cocaine.
  • $2,300 in Canadian currency.
  • Five guns and ammunition.

Regina police valued the seizure at about $900,000.

Both people are charged with drug possession with the purpose of trafficking. The 60-year-old is also facing other charges, including possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The two made their first appearance in court on Friday morning.
