5 neat seat features at Regina's new Mosaic Stadium

As work continues at Regina's new Mosaic Stadium, more and more seats are being installed.

Officials say the green Solara seats being installed by Irwin Seating of Grand Rapids, Michigan, are an upgrade from what Saskatchewan Roughriderfans are used to.

While they don't have upholstery, electric bum-warmers or folding trays, there are a few features that should pique the interest of fans.

Here's five:

1. Drinkholdersfor all Ever get splashed by a beer after the Riders score? It's not a pleasant experience. Fortunately, there'll likely be less of that in future as all 33,000 seats will come with drink holders.

2. Individual armrests Currently, stadium seatingat Mosaic Stadium is bench-style. Come back from the concessions and you could be a victim of "manspreading". Now all seats will have armrests and your territory cannot be encroached.

3. More room to stretch out There's going to be a little more room to stretch your legs. At the old stadium, the separation is a maximum of 76.3 centimetres (30 inches) between the rows. In future, it'll be an average of 83.8 cm (33 in.)

4. Wider seats Football fans tend to be a wee bit broader in the beam than they were a quarter century ago. Stadium seats are getting wider too. The ones being installed now are50.8 cm (20 in.) wide, compared to the old ones which are45.7 cm (18 in.)

5. Less "excuse me, excuse me" Coming back with twoorders of nachos, but your seat's in the middle of the row? Less of a problem in future. Right now, the longest row has 43 seats, but in the new Mosaic Stadium, it will be only 28 seats. And that means fewer apologies as you make you way to your spot.

Officials says the $278-million stadium in EvrazPlace west of Elphinstone Street will be substantially completein August 2016 and will be ready for the Roughriders to play in starting inJune 2017.
