Garth Brooks champions 'life zones' for children's hospital in Saskatchewan

Country music legend Garth Brooks visited Saskatoon and Regina Wednesday to support a unique element a Child Life Zone for the planned children's hospital in Saskatoon.

Brooks is working with a charity called Teammates for Kids to help fund the special area for pediatric patients and their families.

"You guys have invested in the first zone in Canada," Brooks said prior to his appearance in Regina. "Trust me, these things are miracle workers. They're great and I think they are the edge in what is coming in child care."

Brooks said he hopes others will be help support the effort.

"There's nothing like going home to your healthy children," he said. "And if you have healthy children get down on your prayer bones and thank God and try and do something for the kids that aren't that healthy right now."

Brooks has helped raised money for several Child Life Zones in the U.S.

The fundraising events, where tickets cost $5,000 each, were limited to 200 people at each venue.

No concert was planned, although the country singer did do asolo performance with his guitar.

Brynn Boback-Lane, President and CEO of the Children's Hospital Foundation said people would enjoy the event.

"This is a rare opportunity to enjoy some personal interaction with Mr. Brooks," Boback-Lane said.

The Regina event included dinner. Earlier in the day, Brooks attended a champagne lunch and a "meet and greet" in Saskatoon.
