20 years after wedding, Garth Brooks superfan gets to see 3 concerts

A Saskatoon woman andGarthBrookssuperfanwho missed seeing the country superstar in 1996 because it was her wedding day is making up for lost time this week.

Jodie Bourgonje says there were tears in her eyes when she attended theBrooks showat the city's SaskTel Centre on Thursday night, and she expects it will be a similarly emotional experience at the other two Saskatoon shows she has tickets for.

"I think I cried through the opening acts, through most of the show, through the bus ride ..." Bourgonje told CBC Radio'sTheMorning Edition host Sheila Coles on Friday, the morning after Brooks held the first of six shows in the Bridge City.

What really hit home was the sight of all the fans waving their glowing cellphones as they sang along with their musical hero, she said.

"It probably touched me the most to hear that many people singing back songs that I love so much," she said. "That was pretty phenomenal."

After her wedding, Bourgonje and her husband spent part of the honeymoon in Edmonton, where again she was foiled in her attempts to score Brooks tickets.

"I guess it wasn't meant to be," she said.

Now, she's getting her fill of her all-time favourite performer.

"I would go to all six shows if I had tickets," she said.
