Gas line rebuild set for slumping Saskatoon area

The natural gas supplier, SaskEnergy, is planning to install new gas lines to several homes in Saskatoon that have been affected by dramatic movements of soil.

The Nutana-area homes were cut off from the normal gas pipelineswhen large portions of land slumped.

Since then, some of the homes were being supplied natural gas from a temporary set up. Others were simply left without any fuel.

Now SaskEnergy is planning to install supply lines to homes by going through their front lawns, instead of the more common back lane route.

Much of the slumping soil has appeared in backyards and alleys.

The provincial Crown corporation said work on the rebuild could start as early as next week and the plan is to be done before winter weather sets in.
