Hammoud family brings Lebanese taste to Saskatchewan palates

Kamal Hammoudis bringing the taste of Lebanon to an unlikely part of Regina. Hammoud's family has been in Canada for six years, living in Montreal before settling in Regina.

Hammoud first came to Regina with family to visit relatives and he said henoticed everyone was using frozen pita bread.

"When you go to every province the Lebanese food is so famous, except Saskatchewan." Hammoud saw a need and a business opportunity.

He started by making a pitabakery, he says it's the only pita bakery in all of Saskatchewan. His bakery supplies restaurants across Saskatchewan including Extreme Pita, Pita Pit and 7-11.

Hammoud's familyexpanded to include a restaurant, specializing in donairs and other Lebanese food such as Manakish (meat pizza) and Fatayer (square meat pizza).
Hammoud saidhis customer base is very diverse.

"Itstarted with mostly workers in the industrial area, but then they tasted our food and started to talk to other people. Now customers say we have the best Shwarma in town."

Hammoud said people are lined up at lunch time, driving from all parts of the city to eat his food. Hammoud saidhis food is also Halal which means he attracts customers who are seeking that out as well.
