Hundreds in Regina's inner city get Christmas dinner today

There was a hot Christmas meal today in Regina for those who would have been left out in the cold.

Hundreds of people enjoyed a free hot Christmas meal in Regina today.

Volunteers atSoul's Harbour Rescue Mission got a free meal of ham, turkey, mashed potatoes, vegetables, salad, cranberry sauce, coffee, juice, andChristmas baking. Guests also received Christmas stockings and free blankets.

The noon-hour meal attracted hundreds of people.

Mayor Michael Fougere wason hand to help serve meals. Other high-profile volunteers included Saskatchewan Roughriders offensive lineman Ben Heenan and New Democrat MLAWarren McCall.

Souls Harbour has been operating for 24 years in Regina, providing food, clothing and shelter. The agency also provides subsidized daycare and programs aimed at helping people lift themselves out of poverty.

The rescue mission says it usually takes 75 volunteers to help with one of thebusiest days of the year.
