Jim Elliott enters race to become mayor of Regina

Jim Elliott, a Regina man known for his environmental advocacy work, has entered the race to become mayor of the city.

"I feel that this mayor and council are not listening to the people of this city," Elliott said in a media release Friday night. "We need to see more action on behalf of citizens and less driven by big business, developers and lobbyists."

A second theme noted in Elliot'scampaign is to end the "ongoing racism and discrimination in this city".

He alsohopesto address environment and climate change concerns.

"We cannot continue to grow our carbon footprint when this country and this planet demands reducing our burning of fossil fuels and shrinking our dependence on the private automobile and coal-based electricity," Elliott said.

He said he will present some of his ideas on how to tackle the issues during the lead up to the Oct. 26 vote.

Elliott is the third person to announce he is running for mayor of Regina, joining Tony Fiacco and Michael Fougere.
