Cohyn Wells, 9, joins lacrosse team Saskatchewan Rush

The Saskatchewan Rush made a special addition to their roster Saturday when Cohyn Wells, from Moose Jaw, signed an exclusive deal with the lacrosse club.

In a signing ceremony prior to a game in Saskatoon against the Toronto Rock, the team's owner said Cohyn will add spirit and courage to the club.

"He is an incredibly strong young man and his infectious personality is going to be a reminder to us all of the true meaning behind sport and unity," Bruce Urban said.

"I'm really excited," Cohyn said, after he signed the deal. "It's awesome."

He said he was especially looking forward to meeting his teammates for the day.

Cohyn is the Saskatchewan representative for the Children's Miracle Network's Champion Program, a charity that supports youngsters and their families coping with medical challenges.The nine-year-oldhas seen his share of surgeries and hospital visits but has remained bright and cheery throughout it all.

"I find it very rewarding to try and give back and to make an experience, make someone's night." said Chris Corbeil, Rush team captain.

"I remember how much fun it was going to lacrosse games as a kid so to be able to do that tonight, and make it extra-special for somebody, is very rewarding."

As part of Cohyn's one-day contract, he was assigned his own stall in the players' dressing room, complete with jersey and equipment.

He will also head onto the lacrosse floor for the team warm-up and pre-game introductions.

The Rush have been enjoying considerable success in the 2016 National Lacrosse League season. Prior to Saturday's game, they were 8-3 and tied for first place in their division.

The franchise, one of nine in the league, moved to Saskatoon after playing 10 years in Edmonton.
