Regina Mayor MichaelFougerehas confirmed he will be running for re-election this fall.

While many might not be surprised by the announcement, Fougeremade it official he'll be making his second bid for mayor in an interview Monday with The Morning Edition host SheilaColes.

"I'm running again," he toldColes. The civic election is Oct. 26.

Fougere, the first person to throw his hat into the ring, said he hopes to talk about his vision for the future as well as the successes he and the rest of council have seen in 2015.

"It was a tremendous year for us in so many ways," he said.

Among the highlights of 2015 was settling the civic pension liability dispute with a deal involving five employer groups and 21 unions.

Looking ahead to 2016, work continues on the new Mosaic stadium and the upgraded sewage treatment plant, he said.

The big challenge that lies ahead for the city is investing a sufficient amount of money in infrastructure like roads and sewers, he said.

"We do need the federal government to step forward," he said.
