New Democrats set out priorities for sitting that begins Tuesday

Provincial politicians will get back to business at the Saskatchewan Legislature after the holiday weekend and the Opposition NDP says it's ready.

Education, seniors care will be focus, Opposition says

Provincial politicians will get back to business at the SaskatchewanLegislature after the holiday weekend and the Opposition NDP says it's ready.

The fall sitting will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 13.

The NDP says it will focus on what it's hearing from people when it knocks on their doors.

"You hear a lot about health care. You hear a lot about seniors' care," NDP MLA Warren McCall said. "You hear a lot about education not meeting the needs of young people. You hear a lot of concern about government waste."

This is the last timeMLAswill debate one another in the Legislature before Saskatchewanpeoplevoteinthespring.Provincial election day is April 4, 2016.

The party breakdown of the Legislature is unchanged 49 Saskatchewan Party MLAs and nine New Democrats.

Meanwhile, Premier Brad Wall has already spoken publicly abouthis government'spriorities for the sitting.

As Wall said late lastmonth, those priorities include:

  • Legislation allowing additionalprivate MRI scans.
  • New rules dealing with foreign farm ownership.
  • Amending essential services legislation to put it in compliance with Supreme Court ruling.
  • Legislation stemming from the inquiry into conflictof interest allegationsinSherwood RM.
