New program serving food to homeless people in Prince Albert
Prince Albert Community Meals Inc. serves food two days a week
A new group is helping feed homeless people in Prince Albert since the share-a-meal program closed on March 31.
Prince Albert Community Meals Inc. is serving sandwiches, cookies, coffee and juice in the city's downtown area twice a week.
The group is serving the food out of Steve Kember's trailer, a born again Christian who volunteered to help so he canspread the word of God to the less fortunate, handing out religious posters, DVD's and bibles.
"The coffee and cookies and that are to get people to come so I can talk to them. People don't go to church, so I bring church to the people," said Kember. "I believethe problem people have today is a spiritual problem. And it's a spiritual need."
The program would like to serve hot meals out of the building once used by share-a-meal, but it has not received enough donations to afford that.
It is hosting a fundraising event on June 13 at the Prince Albert Union Hall. There will be an illusionist and an Elvis tribute artist.
