North American Indigenous Games short 400 volunteers

Regina is set to host the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) in just over two weeks and the event may be going ahead with a lot less manpower than originally expected.

Organizers have been planning the international sporting event for years, but they are still short volunteers.

Brad Bellegarde, an ambassador for NAIG, said there are still about 400 volunteer positions that need to be filled.

"I just want them to recognize the scale of this event, it's the last time an event like this came through was 2005 with the Canada summer games and we're looking at over 4000 athletes comes from as far as New York, Florida, Nunavut, Yukon, all across Canada and North America," said Bellegarde, "So we really need those hands on deck."

Organizers are looking to fill a wide range of positions including workers at the sports venues and in the VIP areas at the First Nations University stage, drivers,and workers to assist elders.

Volunteers will receive a hat and t-shirt for helping out.

The games begin July 20and run until July 27.
