James Davey says marijuana will be the new treatment for many ailments, from cancer to osteoporosis.

Davey's business Curativa Cannabis is one of two government-approved cannabis shops set to open in North Battleford this fall. The City of North Battleford and Health Canada have both given the company, which is scheduled to open its doors Oct. 17, the green light.

He compares the legalization of marijuana to alcohol and prohibition, saying marijuana is the new "forbidden fruit."

"People are using cannabis and marijuana. Unfortunately it's underground," he said. "Now it's becoming regulated and licensed, we want to be part of that process to make it grow comfortably where medicinal products are clean and there's no underground aspect to it."

Davey said his focus is on medicinal marijuana and educating people before they buy. The facility, which will combine manufacturing and production with a retail space, will be about 30,000 square feet.

"They'll come in with their ailments, things that are bothering them. We'll have our staff that are fully trained and will be fully trained to access and recommend certain types oil or creams or pills to alleviate their pain," he said.

He is confident his medicinal marijuana will work wonders for pains and aches.

"Cannabis will do it for them in a natural way," said Davey, who is a chemist.

His company Envirosafe Chemicals Canada has been producing environmental chemicals for 25 years and researching the marijuana industry for the past 15.

Davey said people have been using marijuana medicinally since the early 1700s.
