The Regina Humane Society has a new event to encourage cat adoptions right before the Saskatchewan election. It's Pick Your Cat-idate Adoption Weekend.

The event has cats up for adoption that the humane society has named to the Sask-cat-chewan Party, the New Demo-cats, the Green Paw-ty and the Lib-purr-als. One cat is named after each party leader and is being showcased on their Facebook page.

The cat and kitten adoptions have been reduced to $50 during the event. This includes spay/neuter surgery, microchip, tattoo, vaccinations, complimentary veterinary exam at Regina and area vet clinics as well as 30 days of free Pet Plan pet insurance.

"There's a lot of cats out there that are homeless and we're hoping to find some homes for them this weekend," said Bill Thorn with the Humane Society.

While Thorn said they're not in a crisis situation, they want to control their cat population before the warm weather makes them much busier.

The event runs Friday to Sunday.
