Two men are going to prison for helping murder suspect Braidy Vermette escape custody in Prince Albert.

Wade Halkett and Richard Favel pleaded guilty to charges including assault with a weapon, use of a firearm in commission of a crime and disguise with intent.

Halkett was sentenced to five years less 45 days and Favel to seven years.

The men ambushed two correctional officers in March who were escorting Vermette to a medical appointment.

Court heard that Halkett and Favel were told they could quit a gang if they helped free Vermette.

Vermette, who is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Troy Napope, was later recaptured.
