Both the victim and the accused are from Beardy's and Okemasis' Cree Nation.

RCMP were called to a home on the reserve, which is located about 90 kilometres north of Saskatoon, shortly after 2 a.m. CST Saturday for a report of a weapons incident, according to a news release.

Police say a gun was fired inside the home and injured a 28-year-old man.

Officers arrested Mandes later that day, according to RCMP.
