City council designated the building a municipal heritage property earlier this year.

The buff-coloured brick building, which was built in 1929,is noted for its its H-shaped design, Spanish colonial revival style and red tile roof.

Under city policy, tax exemptions are given for renovations that improve the heritage characteristics of such properties.

The Frontenac building is in line to receive a 10-year property tax holiday that starts at around $30,000.

Assuming annual tax increases, the amount of the subsidy will total about $395,000 over the decade.

The matter goes to the city's finance and administration committee this afternoon. City council will have final say on Sept. 26.

The Frontenac building is just south of the downtown at 2204 Lorne St. (City of Regina)
