Sale to speed up cat adoption

The Regina Humane Society is full of cats.By Aug. 14, it had more than 200 cats in itscare.

It has now come up with a unique way to find them homes.

This weekend, people can pay however much they want to take a cat home. They can even take a cat home for free.

"Some people are motivated by the deal or the thought of the better price," said Bill Thorn, communicationsdirector at the Regina Humane Society. "Some are motivated by just the event itself and the excitement it creates."

The animal shelter has also created a video on its Facebook page to promote the sale.

Thorn said they're still making sure the cats go to a good home.

"[Those adopting]still go through the same screening process that we always do, so nothing changes there, and we're finding the majority of people are in fact offering an adoption fee. It might be a little less than the regular one, which is just fine," he said.
