Regina's Souls Harbour serves up Christmas supper

Souls Harbour Rescue Mission in Regina served Christmas dinner to 250 people this weekend, all prepared by 75 volunteers.

Souls Harbour Rescue Mission in Regina served Christmas dinner to 250 people this weekend.

It took 75 volunteers to prepare the holiday feast, which included turkey, stuffing and other seasonal goodies.

Robert Ryckman who was there for the meal said attending the mission's supper was the only way he could celebrate Christmas.

"I probably wouldn't get it this year if this wasn't happening, you know," said Ryckman. "All my family is down in Toronto, Ontario, but I've been here for like a few years."

People were entertained by live music and got to leave with warm socks, blankets and toys for the kids.

Carol Brandon said it was nice to have dinner with friendly people.

"It helps out a lot and I'm very thankful for being here," she said. "It will be a good memory to me."

Brandon said she doesn't like to be alone during the holidays and coming down to the shelter to sharea meal with others made for a happy day.
