A local rescue mission cooked up a traditional Thanksgiving dinner at its youth centre in Regina Saturday.

Souls Harbour Rescue Mission dished up hundreds of plates for needy men, women and children in the city.

"A huge part of what we do is not just feed a meal," said Rebecca Cochrane, the director of Soul's Harbour. "But, we say that hope begins with a meal because it is that first step that we have to reach out to someone."

This year Mayor Michael Fougere was there to help serve the meal, which included 20 turkeys, hundreds of potatoes, fall vegetables, and 37 large pumpkin pies.

Catherine Reid was at the centre for the meal. She said it has been a tough year for her and all her family is up north. She was happy she could be around people for a Thanksgiving dinner.

"We become their family and they become ours because of the relationship we have by helping in those times of need," said Cochrane.

Souls Harbour was able to provide the Thanksgiving dinner thanks to donations from the community.

The Friendship Inn in Saskatoon is gearing up for a very busy Thanksgiving supper Sunday, with as many as two thousand people expected to show up.

They have been cooking all day, preparing dozens of turkeys and potatoes.

Ken Campbell, the head chef, told CBC News the best party was seeing how little children react to the feast.

"Full of smiles and happiness when they leave, even when they come," said Campbell. "So, it makes it worthwhilethat's what it is all about."

The Friendship Inn will be serving up the meal during the noon hour Sunday.

"Serving people that are less fortunate than ourselves is one of the bigger things that we can do here," said Campbell. "It is a joy, it is not a job. It is from the heart."
