It's been offering bargains on surplus merchandisefor decades, but now Regina's Sears Outlet store will be closinga move that will affect about 100 jobs.

The clearance store at 1908 7th Avenue in the Warehouse district will be vacating the premises in April 2017.

The 140,000-square-foot storeis at the same mall as a Value Village and a Dollarama.

To the extent that it's possible, the employees will be offered work at the other stores in Western Canada including the flagship department store atRegina's Cornwall Centre and the newer Home Storeon Quance Street, Sears Canada spokespersonVince Power said.

Asked why the store is closing, Power said the company is doing a better job of controlling its inventory and doesn't need as much clearance space as it used to need.

"It's a sign of changing times," he said.

The aim is to have all the merchandise sold off before the store closes, so that means there could be even bigger discounts early next year, Power said.

"People should be on the lookout as early as January," he said.
