Regina sewer plant stops discharging untreated sewage

After heavy rain threw Regina's sewage treatment system for a loop, it's back to normal operations at the facility.

After heavy rain threw Regina's sewage treatment system for a loop, it's back to normal operations at the facility.

The city ended a "bypass" at the sewage treatment plant on Tuesday.

Until then, for several days the city had been dumping some untreated and partially-treated wastewater into Wascana Creek.

The lagoons at the city's sewage treatment plant were at capacity because of heavy rainfall, so excess wastewater had to be diverted.

In a public notice, the City said it's committed to environmental protection and has made every effort to minimize the impact of the bypass.
