Regina will spend $1.5M to fix Lawson pool problems

The City of Regina says it will spend $1.5 million to fix air quality problems atthe Lawson Aquatic Centre.

Since last year, there have been complaints from swimmers and swim clubsover fumes at the Lawson, which is the largest indoor pool in the city.

The fix will include an ultraviolet water cleaning system, an improved air distribution systemthroughout the pool, asystem to pump air out of the building and more pool drains.

The money will come out of city reserves and wasnot included in the 2014 budget released earlier this year.

Because of the renovations, there will be some temporary closures at the pool.

It's not known how this will affect the North America IndigneousGames, being held in Regina this summer and includes events at the Lawson.

Officials said the project is expected to the completed by this September.
