Regina police have arrested a 28-year-old woman following a theft involving fentanyl.

On Tuesday, police are warned the public about a possible influx of fentanyl in the Queen City. Officers said the drug enforcement team was investigating a recent theft of the prescription drug and painkiller.

A female suspected in the theft was arrested and charged on Wednesday afternoon.

Police say fentanyl was taken during internal thefts at a Regina pharmacy. They also said the 28-year-old forged medical prescription to obtain the drug.

She is now facing several charged including theft under $5,000, fraud under $5,000, identity fraud, and using a forged document. She made her first court appearance this afternoon.

Police say they have not recovered the fentanyl in this case.

Authorities in Regina and Saskatoon have been warning the public about fentanyl for months. Last year, 11 people died of fentanyl-related overdoses.
