A grim season of injuries and no wins is only getting worse for the Saskatchewan Roughriders as coach Corey Chamblin announced Wednesday that receiver Chris Getzlaf will not play in their next game. Getzlaf had already missed the team's last game, against Calgary, due to injury.

Getzlaf had been a bright spot for the 0-8 Riders, posting more than 300 yards and fourtouchdowns this season.

He was at the team practice Wednesday when he injured the lower part of his leg after running a pass route.

Riders quarterback Brett Smith said it looked like a serious injury.

"I just saw him down and he couldn't walk on it," Smith said. "That's never a good sign especially for a guy that's as tough as he is."

Smith added that losing Getzlaf for another game is upsetting.

"It's awful and I feel bad for him," Smith said. "I feel bad for the team."

Queen's University product Alex Carroll filled in for Getzlaf last week against Calgary and scored his first CFL touchdown catch.

The Riders' next game is Sunday in Ottawa.
