Roughriders re-sign George and Webster, release Jackson, McCallum

Whoville may be a bustling place at Christmas time, but Riderville is stealing the show with a busy holiday season.

Less than a week after the Saskatchewan Roughriders released 19 players, they made four more moves on Monday.

The Riders announced they re-signed defensive lineman Tearrius George and Canadian defensive back Matt Webster.

George is a nine-year veteran in the CFL and will be returning to Saskatchewan for his sixth season in green and white. The 33-year-oldwas named a West Division All-Star in 2013 and 2014. After racking up a career-high 12 sacks in 2014, George managed just one sack in 10 games last season.

Webster will be entering his third season with the Riders in 2016. The 23-year-old from Queen's University was drafted by the team in fifth round of the 2014 CFL Draft. Webster was set to become a free agent on Feb. 9, 2016. In 11 games last season, the Calgary product recorded a career-high 23 tackles.

After suffering a 3-15 season, followed by major changes in the front office, the Riders continued to slice up their roster from the 2015 season.

Veteran defensive back Tristan Jackson and Canadian kicker PaulMcCallumwere both released on Monday.

Jackson, 29, spent the past five seasons with the Riders. Last season, Jackson led the team with 759 kick return yards. He also recorded 56 tackles and a forced fumble on defence.

McCallum's long-awaited returnto Saskatchewan ended up being very short-lived. The 45-year-old kicker joined the Riders in July after kicker Chris Milo lost favour with the team.McCallumhit 29 of his 36 field goal attempts in 14 games.

Late in the season, 23-year-old Canadian kicker Tyler Crapigna was signed by the team, replacingMcCallumin the final three games of the season.
