Sask. Party cabinet to keep positions until budget release

Saskatchewan's newly re-elected premier says his cabinet members will keep their current positions, at least until after the budget.

Premier Brad Wall says he'll re-examine positions later down the road

SaskatchewanPremier Brad Wall says his current cabinet members will keep their current jobs at least until after the budget is released.

The Saskatchewan Party easily won a majority government on Monday's provincial election. Wall's new caucus held its first meeting at the Legislative Building in Regina on Wednesday.

The party will now work towards planning for the budget, Wall said.

As I've always said, we'll want to rotate people through.- Saskatchewan PremierBrad Wall

"We'll want to get people involved in committee work, but we need to get into budget planning soon so there won't be any immediate cabinet changes," he said.

Changes down the road

But that doesn't mean cabinet changes are off the table after the budget.

Wall said he'll examine the cabinet at a later time.

"As I've always said, we'll want to rotate people through," he said.

"We want to make sure people have a chance to serve in different ways, and so at some point down the road we'll look at that, but not right now."

The first meeting is a monumental one for the newly elected, according to Wall.

"It's a very humbling thing, to sit at the table and know that this work that you've done is paying off. It's hard to come up with the right word sometimes to describe that," he said.
