Sask. pride overflows for Tatiana Maslany following Emmy win

Tatiana Maslany is the newest Emmy award winner for best actress in a drama, but before that she was a Regina resident and student at Dr. Martin LeBoldus High School.

Following news of her win, friends and fansstarted to react with pride.

Amy Matysio is a fellow actor and friend of Maslany.

"It was very emotional to watch her win," said Matysio.

"I was watching at home and I absolutely was just screaming and so proud of her."

Matysio said her friend is extremely hardworking and deserves the win.

Maslany won the award for her multiple roles in the Orphan Black series, where she plays multiple clones with varying personalities and accents.

"Tatiana is one of the hardest working and incredibly dynamic and bright and wildly talented actors out there today," Matysio said.

Later in the day Premier Brad Wall sent out his congratulations on Twitter.

Pride from LeBoldus

News of the Emmy win spread fast at Maslany's old high school LeBoldus.

"We're very, very proud that we have one of our own graduates that are making their way into that journey," said Sophia Yannitsos, arts-education consultant for Regina Catholic Schools.

Yannitos said students at the school are exposed to the arts from kindergarten to grade 12. She said Maslany is an inspiration to students dreaming of a future in acting.

"Tatiana's a student and she was a student like everyone else in the classroom. She had inspirations and dreams like every other student had at present and so why not," Yannitos said.

Yannitos never directly met Maslany, but she said she heard from many that Maslany had something special even back in high school.

"She was one of those students or kids that just had something that was different. That was unique," she said.

Sunday's Emmy win was Maslany'ssecond Emmy nomination for her work on Orphan Black, which airs on Space and BBC America and is shot in Toronto. The sci-fi thriller recently aired its fourth season, with the next season to be its final one.

"I think people will miss her, but I know for sure that she'll be on to something right away," said her friend Matysio.
