Early voting starts as Sask. election campaign enters final stretch

Party leaders rallying supporters as voting kicks off ahead of Oct. 28 provincial election.

Advance voting begins Tuesday, Oct. 22

Two down and one to go;with provincial elections wrapped up in B.C. (sort of) and New Brunswick, attention is on the Saskatchewan campaign.

Five days of early voting started Tuesday and party leaders are on the road withevents across the province.

Sask. Party Leader Scott Moe is set to appear in Prince Albert Tuesday morning to rally supporters asVoting Week kicks off.

NDP Leader Carla Beck has two stops planned for Tuesday:a morning event in Moose Jaw, Sask., then an evening appearance with the Regina Medical Staff Association.

On Monday, Beck appeared on CBC Radio's Blue Sky for an in-depth interview. All of leaders of Saskatchewan political parties running in the election have been featured on the program, except for Scott Moe and the Sask. Party, who declined the invitation to take part.

One week out from the provincial election, Sask. NDP Leader Carla Beck and some of her fellow candidates chat with CBC Radio's Blue Sky host Leisha Grebinski.

Elections Saskatchewan opened 303 polling stations across the province for early voting, which runs 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. CSTOct. 22-26. Voting is paused on Sunday, Oct. 27 before the last day of voting on Oct. 28.

Elections Saskatchewan anticipates the ballot count will last until midnight. Thegovernment banned the use vote tabulation machines last year.

Michael Boda is Saskatchewan's chief electoral officer. He spoke with Peter Mills, host of The 306, about mail-in ballots, voting early and other practical information ahead of the provincial election on Oct. 28.

On Monday, New Brunswick voters ended six years of Progressive Conservative government and elected a Liberal majority led by Susan Holt, who will become the first woman to serve as premier in that province's history.

That followed the Oct. 19 provincial election in B.C. where the incumbent NDP are in a dead heat with the Conservatives after the initial vote count.
