Sask. government approves $3M subsidy to Skip The Dishes

The Saskatchewan government is dishing out $3 million to Skip the Dishes, an online food delivery service, for an expansion at its Saskatoon corporateoffice.

The companyis adding up to 300 employeesover the next three years.

Premier Brad Wall's cabinet decided April 21 that the Ministry of the Economywill provide $10,000 per employee, with much of the money devoted to training.

The full-time jobs include senior managers, project managers, software engineers, growth managers, sales, operations, account managers and administrative support.

The province is spreading out the payments over three years:

  • The first payment of $750,000 is this spring when the contract is signed.
  • The second payment of $1 million isAug. 1.
  • The third payment of$1.25 million isMay 1, 2017.

If there are fewer jobscreated than the contract requires, some of the money isto be paid back.

The provincial government says Skip The Dishes presently operates in 10 cities across the country and has expanded to four U.S. cities.

The company was founded in Saskatoon in 2013 by Joshua, Daniel and Chris Simair, Jeff Adamson and Andrew Chau.
