A Saskatchewan woman now living in Paris says the attacks in that city were very disturbing.

"I can hear ... the sirens and the helicopters outside my window," Kyrie Kristmanson, a musician who grew up in Saskatchewan, told CBC News Friday night from her apartment in the heart of Paris.

"I'm safe,"Kristmanson added. She had, earlier in the evening, been very near to one of the places that was attacked.

"Nobody was sure how serious it was at first," she said, recalling how she urgently made her way home while sirens were wailing around her. "It was a very frightening and terrifying moment."

She said that places that were attacked were very busy Friday-night spots, including the concert hall that she has visited herself many times.

"I know people who work there so you can imagine is was a very troubling and scary situation," Kristmanson said.

She said her immediate thoughts were to get in touch with her friends to make sure everyone was OK.

"These are places where we typically go on a Friday night," Kristmanson said, adding that so far as she knows no one in her circle of friends was hurt.

She also quickly sent message on social media to let everyone know she was fine.

"I'm in shock and we're all just waiting to see how it unfolds," she said. "It's heartbreaking."

She said the city was still reeling from attacks in January.

"I'm really worried about the aftermath," she added, concerned that tensions may rise among different cultural groups.
