Souls Harbour looking for donations for annual Christmas meal

Six hundred guests anticipated for annual community Christmas meal on Dec. 23.

They expect to serve 600 guests

Souls Harbour Rescue Mission is asking for your help in sharing the joy of the holiday season.

The organizationis serving up its annual community Christmas meal on Dec. 23, when it plans to serve 600 guests.

There are several items Souls Harbour needs donated, including:

  • Large turkeys (30).
  • Large hams (30).
  • Gravy mix (five large packages of 120 grams).
  • Cranberry sauce (three cans 14 ouncesor larger).
  • Coffee (three tins of 1.36 kilograms).
  • Dill pickles (four litres).
  • Dinner buns (42 dozen).

Souls Harbour also provides meals on a daily basis and, especially with the return of cold weather, it hasbeen receiving more people.

"We have been busy," Patty Humphreys, marketing manager for the agency, said Friday. "Every night we're doing 200-plus meals."

As well, the men's shelter has been operating at-capacity. The transitional housing for women, Humphreys said, has not experienced an increase in use.

Souls Harbour can always use donations of clothing, in particular cold weather items like mitts and boots.

There are other ways you can help, too. You could donate a new all-ages children's toy or make a Christmas stocking of a pair of socks filled with useful items. Souls Harbour also accepts financial donations.

Food items and other donations can be dropped off at 1836 Halifax St. between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. CST Monday to Friday. Souls Harbour can be reached at306-543-0011.
