Fallen Sask. soldiers honoured with Highway of Heroes

The Trans-Canada Highway from Regina to Moose Jaw has been designated Saskatchewan's Highway of Heroes, to honour fallen soldiers from the province.

A large sign, just outside of Regina, was unveiled Wednesday.

The route is about 75 kilometres and was chosen for the historic connections of Regina and Moose Jaw as centres for air training, especially during the Second World War.

"It's very emotional," Donna Kadash said at a ceremony outside of Regina Wednesday. Kadash's nephew James Hayward Arnal died while serving on Canada's military mission in Afghanistan. "I didn't get to partake in the highway of heroes when James came home, so to have this in Saskatchewan means an awful lot to me, my family, and my sisters."

A sign will also be put in place near Moose Jaw.
