Weyburn, Sask., Wal-Mart officially decertified

The Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board has approved the decertification of Canada's only unionized Wal-Mart.

The Saskatchewan Labour RelationsBoard has approved the decertification of Canada's only unionized Wal-Mart.

The board made the decision Wednesday after employees at the Weyburn store voted to decertify 51-5.

Votes were counted last weekfollowing a lengthy dispute between the union and the company that went all the way to the Supreme Court.

The board has nowaccepted those results.

Despite being certified for five years, the United Food and Commercial Workers was never able to negotiate a collective agreement with the retailing giant, which has resisted unionization at its other stores around North America.

Two other Canadian stores, both in Quebec, had previously had unions.

At one of them, employeeslater voted to decertify, while the other was closed by the company.
