Suspected mobster from Quebec arrested in Sask.

A Quebec man has been arrested in Spiritwood, Sask., in connection with a major organized crime bust in Montreal.

A Quebec man has been arrested in Spiritwood, Sask., in connection with a major organized crime bust in Montreal.

In custody is Rocco Caruso, 34, whom the RCMP arrested in the town on the west side of the province on Wednesday.

A Canada-wide warrant had been issued for his arrest on a charge of conspiracy to traffic cannabis.

According to the RCMP, it's believed Caruso had been in the area hunting.

He was among some 90 people charged in relation to a massive narcotics sting last week. More than 70 people were arrested in Quebec on Nov. 22.

RCMP spokeswoman Heather Russell saidWednesday's arrest occurred without incident.

"He was very co-operative when taken into custody," she said.

Denis Allchurch, the MLA for Rosthern-Shellbrook, which includes Shellbrook, noted that Spiritwood was the home detachment of two RCMP officers who were killed during the summer. The arrest of Caruso is the latest shock to the town, he said.

"It's unbelievable that this would happen to the small town of Spiritwood," he said.

Caruso is scheduled to appear in court on Monday in Laval. An RCMP website showed eight people being sought in connection with the Quebec drug operationare still not in custody.
