Tornado touches down near Estevan, Sask.

A tornado touched down near Estevan, Sask., Thursday on what turned out to be a day of funnel cloud sightings.

A tornado touched down nearEstevan, Sask., Thursday on what turned out to be a day of funnel cloud sightings.

However, there's no word on any damage.

According to Environment Canada, the "landspout" or weak dust-tubetornado occurred between 11:30 and 11:35 a.m. about eight kilometres southeast of the city of 11,000.

The weather office says it confirmed it was a tornado after receiving numerous photos, public reports and video.

Elsewhere over east-central Saskatchewan, there wereseveral reports of funnel clouds, including from the Watrous, Greenwater Lake, Govan, Porcupine Plain and Yorkton areas.

Some areas received "very heavy rain", Environment Canada said, including around an area near Oxbow. One spot about 11 km northeast of the town received 79 millimetres (more than three inches)in less than a hour between 12:40 and 1:30 p.m.
