TV star Adam Beach joins culture side of Indigenous Games

The North American Indigenous games, set to open in Regina on July 20, will feature television star Adam Beach as part of the event's cultural component.

Beach will bring one of his signature "pop-up cinema" events to the First Nations University of Canada on the final weekend of games, July 26 - 27. The event will be free for athletes and volunteers.

The NAIG will also have nightly performances throughout the games at the Cultural Village Stage, hosted by comedian Ryan McMahon and singer Andrea Menard.

In addition to the shows, there will a number of other enlightening events as part of the cultural side of the games.

"[We'll have] great performers traditional and contemporary as well as all the different workshops activities that will be happening at our teepee village, art market, trade show [and] food vendors," the NAIG's Dominga Robinson said Friday as organizers unveiled details for the cultural events.

Robinson noted people will have a chance to see some unique performers during the games.

"We have some people coming down from Northwest Territories who are going to be showcasing their Dene high-kick sporting demos, that not a lot of people get to see," she said.

The closing ceremonies feature a performance by A Tribe Called Red. The Ottawa-based group mixes traditional pow wow vocals and drumming with cutting-edge electronic music.

The cultural events take place at the First Nations University of Canada in the game's Cultural Village.
